At the start of my career I studied book construction and design in London at the University of The Arts, where I won the Award for Design Binding in my graduation year.
I find that there is so much expression and art in designing and producing a well bound, properly constructed binding, that the sense of achievement that can be realised is immense!
I have won National and International Awards for my designs and bindings: have been exhibited in the U.K. and Europe, including the Bibliotheca Wittockiana in Brussels and I am proud to say that my books are held in the collections of a number of distinguished people as well as being included in the libraries of many Collectors.
I have won the prestigious Elizabeth Soutar Bookbinding Competition, hosted by the National Library of Scotland, three times. An achievement of which, I am very proud; my books being retained in the National Library of Scotland.
My bindings have been commissioned by a variety of individuals and Organisations: I have bound books that have been presented to Kofi Annan, David Attenborough and also the Apostolic Nuncio for Europe. The binding presented to the Secretary-General of the U.N. was commissioned by the Scottish Executive as a gift from Scotland.
Below you can see examples of some of my bindings: if you are looking for an individual, one off book, designed for yourself or perhaps as an unusual gift for a loved one, contact me and we can discuss your binding.
